HIGA- Hizkuntza Gutxituetako Gazteen Topaketa
Description
HIGA is a summit for young speakers of minoritized languages aimed at revitalizing minoritized languages and fostering collaboration between different language communities worldwide. During this 5-day program, participants will have the opportunity to train in language revitalization and activism, share their experiences, and learn from each other’s realities. The summit provides a space for new generations to revitalize their community languages, learn and practice strategies to preserve their culture and heritage, and form collaborative networks. Additionally, evening open mics, concerts, dances, and guided visits will offer participants a chance to connect and experience local and international culture through diverse artists.
Since its launch in 2011 by the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, HIGA has grown significantly. In 2023, we celebrated our most diverse gathering yet, with 75 participants representing 55 minoritized languages.
The 2025 edition promises to be bigger and better, featuring a more international participant base, including activists, scholars, and researchers. The training received within the HIGA summit will be recognised with a Summer Course certificate issued by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). This new edition will cover new topics like the intersection of art and language activism.
The meeting will be trilingual, in English, Basque and Spanish, with professional interpreters.
