Basque Summer Tutorial in Language Documentation
Description
Target: The Franco-German University (FGU) is funding and coordinating the Basque Summer Tutorial in Language Documentation. The tutorial is a formative workshop, oriented to master and doctoral students, as well as other interested practitioners in language documentation. The workshop combines training related to the conceptual, technical, and ethical issues raised by the practice in language documentation, specific courses on the Basque language, and actual fieldwork in-situ. It includes a hands-on training in ELAN, Praat and Audacity. Access to the field, organized by the research lab IKER (www.iker.cnrs.fr), will allow students to carry out original research work based on a personal project that they will have proposed to the workshop organizers as part of the preliminary conditions for inscription. The lab proposes to the interested researchers a network of bascophone informants right at the terrain.
Location: Larraine/Larrau (Basque Country, Pyrénées Atlantiques, France). Larraine/Larrau is a small bascophone village of about 200 people in the heart of the Pyrenees.

Call: We invite inscription proposals for the summer school. The proposals should be at most one page long (12pt). They should include: (i) a brief motivation of the interest to attend the school; (ii) a research issue, which should help us locate supervisors, resources and informants necessary to carry out the project successfully. The school will not admit more than 20 students. The students will be chosen according to the quality and the pertinence of the project they will have proposed. The projects will be evaluated by the organizers. The course is organised by the Université Bordeaux Montaigne, the Universität Konstanz and the research lab IKER (CNRS).

Ressources: Recording material (video recorders) will be furnished by the lab. The students will have access to a Virtual Bureau for material, discussion, and supervision hosted by the University of Konstanz. The students must bring their own laptop.
