Research, resources and health in the marine environment
Description
The conferences presented in this Summer Course are based on three fundamental pillars of the marine and marine world: research, resources and health. They also focus on challenges related to ocean sustainability, climate action, clean energy and quality education through tools such as interdisciplinarity, multilingualism, teamwork and social action.
Topics will be discussed such as the generation of clean energy at sea, the creation of High Living Lab centers in our environment, the presence of environmental pollutants and their impact on the marine environment, and research on the sea of university students will be publicly shown.

She holds a PhD in Law and is a lecturer in Civil Law at the UPV/EHU. Her main line of research is bioethics, a subject on which she has published several monographs and scientific and dissemination articles. She has participated in 4 European research projects of the VI and VII European Framework Programme, as well as in multiple research projects of the National Programme. She has been a visiting professor at the Hastings Center for Bioethics in New York, the Center for Bioethics at the University of Philadelphia and the University of Bordeaux. She was Secretary General of Eusko Ikaskuntza, and later of Jakiunde, Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. Vice-rector of quality and teaching innovation at the UPV/EHU between 2008 and 2012, and responsible for the development of the educational model, as well as quality programmes, and training and evaluation of university teaching staff. Between 2013 and 2015, she was Deputy Minister of Universities and Research of the Basque Government.

Profesor Titurlar en el Departamento de Sociología y Trabajo Social de la Universidad del País Vasco y miembro de Ikuspegi-Observatorio Vasco de Inmigración y del Grupo de Investigación Parte Hartuz. Ex director de Ikuspegi (2011-2019). Tiene una amplia experiencia docente en grado y posgrado, tanto en la UPV/EHU, como en otras universidades españolas y latinoamericanas. Sus principales líneas de investigación son las migraciones internacionales, las políticas sociales o la exclusión social. En este sentido ha realizado diferentes investigaciones en el campo de las actitudes hacia la inmigración, los procesos de integración del colectivo inmigrante o el sinhogarismo. Ha publicado varios libros y artículos en revistas académicas sobre estos temas y participa asiduamente en congresos jornadas y seminarios. Imparte también charlas y seminarios sobre la inmigración a entidades sociales, asociaciones y ciudadanía en general.

Professor of Cell Biology (UPV/ EHU, 2011). Deputy Director of Research Centre for Experimental Marine Biology and Biotechnology (Plentzia Marine Station) in the University of the Basque Country (2012-). Researcher in the Consolidated Research Group Cell Biology in Environmental Toxicology (CBET). The CBET group develops since 1983 research and teaching activities within environmental toxicology. Pre and postdoctoral research studies in: Univ of Wales (Aberystwyth), Univ Innsbruck (Austria), Univ Azores (Portugal) and University of Wales (Cardiff). He has supervised 7 PhDs and 3 in progress. Interests on the development and application of biomarkers of effect against exposure to metals in aquatic and terrestrial organisms (earthworms, molluscs, polychaetes, fishes), cellular localization and quantification of metal ions, molecular probes in target cellular compartments, and the transit of metals (aqueous forms, massive forms and nanoparticles), plastics and other contaminants.
