Topological Matter School (TMS16)
Descripción
One of most fundamental issues about matter is to understand their states and the associated internal orders: Topology and lattice symmetries play a key role here. Topological states of matters are of fundamental interests for their exotic properties manifest already at the single-particle description level. The aim of this one week school is to introduce students to the recently developed field of topological states of matter. The main goal is to cover basic and advanced aspects of the field, in the form of extended lectures by leading experts on the fields, including a set of lectures explaining practically how to perform a first principle numerical approach to the problem.
Objetivos
Introduce PhD students and young postdoctoral researchers to the field of topological properties of matter
Provide the necessary background on group theory background with an emphasis on the role of symmetries in our understanding of properties of matter.
Introduce classification schemes for materials as a function of the topology of their electronic structure.
Describe examples of topologically non-trivial materials such as topological insulators, Weyl semimetals, etc…
Provide graduate level presentations introducing to state-of-the-art methods and techniques on the field, including hands-on numerical sessions.
